ABOUT RESIDENCES
We have 18 residences that are owned by the university and another 10 that is leased from private landlords. With the exception of the leased property, all university residences are non-sharing, meaning one student, one room. Majority of residences are mixed while few are either strictly for males or females only. We accommodate students from all corners of the world and our residences are quite diverse. In all the residences there is one or two Residence Assistants (depending on the capacity of residence) who are employed on part-time basis to supervise residences. RAs are available from 17h00-700 and are tasked with the running of residences, student development through implementation of residence life projects, ensuring integration and respect for all and to attend to any kind of residence emergency. Facilities available in residence include communal kitchens, fridges, laundries, TV rooms and sports fields.
As chambers of development residences are meant to build students holistically, equipping them with all necessary life, social and academic skills. All residences have House Committees which are made up of representatives elected by students. These reps are residence students who are meant to represent students in housing related matters. The HCs often play a critical role in the development of students as they are situated within the student community and they themselves are made up of students.
Collective leadership helps both management and students to ensure that residences are running smoothly with minimal or no disturbances. Through seminars and workshops student leadership contributes invaluable insight on how to hold residences together. In this manner interests of students are safe-guarded and learning is made possible.
